Teens should begin their application for ASM apprenticeships at Pros Arts Studios by visiting www.afterschoolmatters.org and looking up and selecting the titles of programs listed below.

Journeys/Migrations and the Document
Instructor:
Anthony Rea
February 8 - April 21
Schedule:
Wednesday & Thursday, 5pm-8pm and Saturday 10am-1pm
Expand upon and develop knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and its various tools to build a portfolio of work that is individual and collaborative but demonstrates your ability to communicate clear ideas with an enhanced visual language Through the research of contemporary artists and photographers, visiting artists, field trip and classroom exercises, you will produce a body of work that will be used as portfolio material for college submission and other applications with a culminating youth-led exhibition.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 4:30pm-7:30pm
Join a growing culture of Do-It-Yourselfers. Learn how to knit and crochet using traditional and contemporary techniques from the basics and up. Make your own knit & crochet accessories, 3D toys and public art... Because handmade is always warmer!


The J-DEF Peace Mural Project
Instructors: Denise Carrasco & Jeff Maldonado
February 9 - April 21
Schedule: Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Become a part of this mural project which addresses youth violence in Pilsen. Learn basic painting techniques and get some great hands-on experience!

Each One/ Reach One
Mentorship programn links cultural, educational and arts professionals with teens as they decide their educational and career paths.  Program includes youth development and youth leadership opportunities to help build student interest and capabilities.
  • Wanted: mentors and teen participants. 
  • Upcoming event: Youth Cafe-Building a Portfolio (two-part session: 9.28.10 & 10.05.10) will give students the basics of building a portfolio, selecting work, preparing a works sample page, and ultimately preparing for the upcoming National Portfolio Day at the School of the Art Institute (Oct. 24). Intended for HS juniors and seniors, this is a great opportunity for anyone thinking about art after high school and as a career.  Location TBA.
